Census 2020 Update: National Response rate currently 59%. Missouri response rate currently 59.6%. We are currently 23rd in the nation for response. Hand delivered census invitations have been delayed meaning ~120,000 households have not yet been invited to fill out the census. In-person delivery and response gathering is following the state reopening procedures. The delay of response gathering also puts a delay on the redistricting data.

MSDIS General News: The Missouri Kids Count story map has reached its final release stage. The application includes five interactive maps related to Missouri’s children and their unique situations during the COVID-19 crisis. MSDIS would like to thank our student workers who, in spite of an unexpected speedbump in the middle of the semester, did some really wonderful work over the past few months. Alex Ringling, Griffin Johnson, and Abby Hunt were the first students to enroll in our MSDIS internship program and we thoroughly enjoyed working with them and helping them navigate the often confusing world of GIS. We were also fortunate enough to have Ben Kite remain with MSDIS this semester as our workstudy student. It is, however, with tremendous sadness that MSDIS says goodbye to both Alex and Griffin as the two graduate from Mizzou Geography despite the unique challenges of the past couple of months. We congratulate them both and look forward to following their progress and successes now that they are out in the real world. At present, we believe that both Ben and Abby will be back to help out with MSDIS work next in the Fall. Finally, we also want to congratulate both the Department of Geography and the College of Arts & Sciences for another successful (if not highly atypical) semester and thank them for continued support. The work that MSDIS does would not be possible without the backing of the University of Missouri and we are grateful for their trust and encouragement. We are excited to continue to work more closely with Mizzou Geography as the University adapts to meet the challenges of the future.

Treasurer’s Report – Dreamhost was the last expense. Ending balance at $23,849.95

Membership Report – Currently absences are not being counting against people due to circumstance. 35 total members. 25 good standing. 8 absences. 18 quorum. There was a point of contact change. Dan Rose is now the MGISAC representative for the City of Columbia. Recommendation to make Southeast Missouri State University a member.

Motion to make Southeast Missouri State a member of MGISAC. Motion seconded. Motion passes unanimously to make Southeast MSU a member, represented by Indi Braden.

MO 911 Service Board also has interest in becoming a member. Voting rights are immediate upon becoming a member so care must be taken when voting in membership of someone not in attendance when quorum is already tight. Annual renewal letters to go out and point of contacts to be updated.

By-Laws Report – Changes coming for next month. Will be adding wording in regards to Sunshine Law and Election events. Changes will be sent out for review before the next meeting.

MOGISCON’21 – Went through calendar and what to accomplish when. Also went over possible alternatives in the event in-person conference isn’t possible. Send theme and/or logo idea to Melissa.

Committee Reports

Data Development – Emergency Management committee discussed National Address database outreach to encourage data sharing throughout local jurisdictions. Trying to finalize flyer to pass on. MDC has many projects to help support the importance of a state imagery contract.

Education – ArcGIS Online school competition should have winners soon. The Carter house does remote Geography classes in the afternoon. Contact Joe if you would like a list of activities for at-home learning.

Workshops – NEMO workshop postponed. No date set at this time.

Cooperating Agency/Organization Reports

NRCS – No Report

USGS – Project 1 100% acquired. Project 2 69% acquired. Each year people can submit a shapefile of areas they want imagery flown. They use this to look for interest overlap to plan future flights.

MoRAP – University has employees working from home still.

MMA – No Report

MSPS – Legislature trying to reduce the number of years of experience required of surveyors. This could have negative impacts on survey quality. Several things that need to be watched for many avenues currently in the legislature.

Open Discussion – MoDOT staying remote for the foreseeable future. 88% of support has been maintained even by working from home.

People in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones but people in Abu Dhabi doooooo.
