OGI Report – ESRI state contract. There has benn a steep price increase. 9.5% across the board. Contract usually runs through Tracy’s office. Review product list quarterly. Most recent list has side-by-side comparison. Current contract can’t show an increase over 7%. Waiting to hear back on if they can do that much price raising. Current contract through 2024.

MSDIS General News
Throughout the month of February, MSDIS worked to deploy the 2022 US Census TIGER/Line data to our Hub site. As many of you know, the migration of these data to the ArcGIS Online environment has been complicated by major changes to the metadata standard used by the US Census Bureau. In order to make these data available through the same portal as the rest of Missouri’s digital geospatial data, we have copied a handful of the most important metadata fields to our ArcGIS Online versions and inserted a link to the Census folder on the MSDIS Data Library. We continue to search for an easier way to make these data available to the public.
We also spent much of February working with the Division of IT and the College of Arts and Sciences to better prepare for the inclusion of NG911 data. While we have no concrete answers to any of our questions so far, we are working to better understand how funds can be dispersed from the state to the clearinghouse as well as our options for data storage and disaster recovery.
The current selection of 2022/2023 imagery is now available for download via The Missouri Map. In a manner of speaking. Please see Appendix 1 for additional information which you will definitely want to be aware of before starting a download.
Finally, the Mizzou Spring Semester is officially half over. That means we have had eight weeks to monologue to a room full of 27 undergraduates about how awesome GIS is. While we’re pretty sure that is more than enough to convince them to seek out careers in geospatial sciences, a little backup never hurt anyone. If any members of the MGISAC community would be interested in giving a guest presentation to our class, you are more than welcome to send us an email at voughtth@missouri.edu. This would be an ideal opportunity to talk about the cool GIS work that your agency does, recruit for summer interns, or just help ignite some interest in geospatial technology. Class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11:00-12:15.

Treasurer’s Report – $21,080 income. $4,122.32 expenses. $37,975.62 total.

Membership Report – 34 members. 18 quorum. 13 renewals coming up. Have until June to get that done.

Bylaws Report – No report.

Committee Report

Data Development – Update webinar had 50 attendees. Brandon Wolfe presented on Web EOC. Brian gave imagery update. Be nice to have council review geocoding available. State is doing this currently. Trying to get to some kind of standard. Plan to make it publicly available.

Education – No Report

Legislation – HB 475 out of committee with unanimous support. SB 653 is its companion bill. House is Republican sponsored and Democrat sponsored on the Senate side. Nice bipartisan support. There are costs involved due to some of the language. There’s also broadband legislation out there that could be contradictory saying broadband get to control their data. 8 people testified at the hearing.

Outreach – No Report

Marketing and Communication – Working on getting website updated. Chris now has admin access enough to get that the page isn’t available. Nathan has access but edits seem off somehow.

Conference – Have people submit questions for panel discussion. Food is lined out, the draft agenda is coming together. Will be going to weekly meetings in the last month leading to the conference.

NG911 – Have a couple flights done. Weather is delaying things. Boards working on some state level tasks to start purchase process for data work.

Agency Reports

USGS – Working on National trails database. Can give presentation on project at upcoming meeting. Question on if anyone has worked with location service “What 3 Words”? Some seem aware of it. Springfield uses it. We spend a few minutes looking up the 3 words for our houses.

Open Discussion

Lee’s Summit has a GIS tech spot open. State has one intern spot open. Conservation has a senior and 3 normal GIS specialist spots open. National Guard also has a GIS spot open. NGA had person at the Fed UC talking about investment in St. Louis. This can hurt other areas trying to pull talent.
